It was predicted that Georgetown County employers would need over 200 jobs in technology, manufacturing, and industry. Due to this Horry Georgetown Technical College recognized a need for highly trained and skilled workers in the Georgetown County area. To fill the needs of the community HGTC chose to construct a new Center for Advanced Manufacturing at its Georgetown campus which is a sister to the HGTC Myrtle Beach campus and Conway campus. To achieve this goal ADW Architects of Charlotte, NC was selected for the design. Through collaborative efforts HGTC and ADW determined that the facility was to focus on several important industrial needs: Welding, Machine Tool, Mechatronics, as well as Computer Design. In the final design the building was just over 30,000 square feet. The Welding Lab has 20 welding booths with space for an additional eight should the program expand. The machine tool lab is filled with lathes, hydraulic brake presses, and drill presses. The mechatronics lab is serviced by a dedicated classroom, laboratory, and tool crib. Computer design also has a dedicated classroom. The building also contains a break room and lounge.
